The GI Show: Episode 11-How to Treat Acid Reflux
For patients experiencing GERD, lifestyle modifications are the first treatment options to be considered. Diet changes are appropriate and patients who are obese are at higher risk for GERD. Individual triggers may differ but your physician might suggest sleeping on your left side or elevating your head while you sleep. Eating large meals or eating late at night might also need to be avoided along with peppermint, caffeine, and alcohol. Medical therapy might include antacids, H2 blockers, or PPIs (proton pump inhibitors).
