Alka Kalra, CRNP

Alka Kalra, CRNP, is a board-certified adult and geriatric nurse practitioner specializing in gastroenterology. She earned both her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is certified by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and has advanced training in adult and senior patient care.

Alka joined Birmingham Gastroenterology Associates in December 2017 and serves as an inpatient provider, delivering high-quality digestive health care to patients across the Birmingham area. She is experienced in managing a range of gastrointestinal conditions, including gastrointestinal bleeding, liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and complex inpatient GI cases.

Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Alka earned a Master’s degree in English Literature and worked as a teacher in India for three years—bringing a unique background and compassionate approach to patient care.
