Mary Fil, PA-C

Mary Fil, PA-C is a certified physician assistant specializing in gastroenterology, providing comprehensive care for a wide range of digestive health conditions. She sees patients in Birmingham Gastroenterology’s Homewood, Gardendale, and Hoover clinics, where she works in a collaborative practice with Dr. Chris Shaver.

Mary earned her Bachelor of Arts and Science in Biology from the University of Alabama in May 2017, followed by her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in December 2020. She is certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and is an active member of the American Academy of Physician Associates.

Prior to joining Birmingham Gastroenterology, Mary practiced at a private gastroenterology clinic in Tuscaloosa, where she gained valuable experience managing a wide variety of digestive conditions. She provides evaluation, diagnosis, and ongoing management for patients with gastrointestinal concerns and works closely with Dr. Shaver to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.

Mary treats a broad spectrum of GI conditions, including irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), celiac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, liver disease, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), and hemorrhoids. She focuses on helping patients understand their symptoms and navigate their care with clarity and confidence.

Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Mary is proud to serve patients across Central Alabama with a patient-centered approach that emphasizes education, accessibility, and personalized care.
