J. Stewart Herndon, MD
Dr. Stewart Herndon is a board-certified gastroenterologist and Birmingham native dedicated to providing expert digestive health care to patients across central Alabama, including Jefferson County, Chilton County, and surrounding communities. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), where he also completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine.
Dr. Herndon completed his fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, North Carolina, where he received advanced training in managing complex GI and liver conditions.
He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American College of Physicians.
Dr. Herndon’s clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of acid reflux (GERD), Barrett’s esophagus, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), liver disease, esophageal disorders, abdominal pain, hemorrhoids, and colon cancer screening and prevention. He is committed to delivering compassionate, comprehensive GI care tailored to each patient’s needs.
