Donny D. Kakati, MD
Dr. Donny Kakati is a board-certified gastroenterologist providing comprehensive digestive health care to patients throughout Central Alabama. He specializes in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases affecting the digestive system and performs screening and diagnostic colonoscopies and upper endoscopies (EGD). He evaluates and treats a wide range of gastrointestinal conditions, including acid reflux (GERD), swallowing disorders (dysphagia), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver disease, celiac disease, constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, hemorrhoids, and other digestive disorders. Dr. Kakati also performs HemWell®, a minimally invasive, non-surgical treatment for internal hemorrhoids.
A native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Dr. Kakati graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Science before earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) School of Medicine. While at UAB, he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society in recognition of his excellence in clinical care and compassionate approach to medicine.
Dr. Kakati completed his residency in Internal Medicine at UAB before pursuing his fellowship in Gastroenterology at Emory University, where he received advanced training in the diagnosis and treatment of complex gastrointestinal and liver diseases.
He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the Alabama Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
